Ecological Restoration of streams in 3 regions of Maharashtra |
Praj Foundation & Ecological Society have partnered to undertake 'Nirmal Ganga Abhiyan', a project to ecologically restoring existing streams in three villages namely Vavoshi, Dist. Raigad, Manhere, Dist. Ahmednagar, and Kapshi, Dist. Satara. These three villages mainly represent High, Medium and Low rainfall regions respectively. These streams are being ecologically restored with the help of school children, teachers & villagers. This project will create a viable development model to be emulated in the future, where economic planning and ecological conservation complement each other for betterment of the society. The project was launched in January 2008 and will be operated for next three years. A Guidebook on Stream Restoration in Marathi "Nirzar Gaan" was released in September 2008 narrating the methodology for carrying out stream restoration project, starting with understanding of ecological processes and biodiversity. It describes how to tackle ecological restoration. The book also provides simple techniques of survey, planning, implementation and monitoring.
