Awareness of women & children on preventive health & environmental issues in 7 villages in Mulshi Taluka |
Praj foundation has supported a project of creating awareness on the Health issues and preventing common illnesses among the school children, adolescents as well as women in seven villages in Mulshi Taluka of Pune district. These villages are in close proximity of our R& D centre Matrix at Urawade. The project is being implemented by Rachana Society for Social Reconstruction.
During the current year, 3 health camps were organized one each at Mutha, Kharavade and Urawade villages benefiting 470 beneficiaries including school children and women. The awareness campaigns for better health were organized with specific focus on mother and child health, women and adolescent health issues, family life and AIDS prevention, sanitation, superstitions, sex discrimination, etc. Various methods such as Slide & Video shows, Posters & health rallies, Puppet shows & Street plays, etc were also being regularly used to create Awareness amongst the students, youth and villagers.
Recently a 2 day interactive workshop was conducted for school children at Snehasewa to educate them on various health issues. During the two days residential programme 42 children from 3 villages with their respective coordinators participated in deliberations. During the programme various health and sanitation issues such as personal hygiene, safe drinking water by using simple purification methods, importance of closed drainage system, techniques of establishing kitchen garden on waste water, important medicinal plant for common ailments, etc were discussed. The programme included lectures by various experts, group discussions and group activities. A group of children from each of the five villages with the help of small skits and puppet shows presented issues relating to Hygiene and sanitation, child marriage, importance of trees, etc. Before concluding the programme an action plan was prepared by the children with the help of coordinator to tackle the health and sanitation related issues faced by the residents as well as children in these villages.
